On Monday, 7th October 2024, the Director of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE) at Godfrey Okoye University, Mr. Chrostopher Uwakwe, received a book donation from Mr. Matthew Chukwuebuka Aroh, who donated a book titled “IGBA—BOI REPOSITIONING THE IGBO APPRENTICESHIP SYSTEM”.

The book, authored by Ogechi Adeola and Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, discusses the notable business culture of the Igbos and champions the need for modernising the IGBA BOI system of business mentorship and seed capital at the end of the successful apprenticeship.

Mr Christopher Uwakwe on receiving the book on behalf of DOE highlighted a series of programs and projects of the Directorate saddled with the responsibility of promoting evidence-based and innovation-driven entrepreneurial programs across Godfrey Okoye University and its group of institutions.

Speaking further, he said that the IGBA- BOI system between a master and his apprenticeship is in line with what DOE is already doing through STEP, STEP-S and other programs where students are mentored, trained on mastering business skills and given seed capital to embark on their chosen business idea where they will do the practical of what they have learnt during business training, mentorship and incubation processes.

The donor Mr. Matthew Aroh, CEO of Romat Group Limited applauded the Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE) at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and further commended the institution’s giant efforts in promoting entrepreneurship rarely seen in other institutions. He said the book is his little contribution to DOE which will be relevant in research, written documentation on the IGBA – BOI business culture of the Igbos and a possible modification of the ancient system that has produced many wealthy Igbos that passed through the Master- Nwaboi (Apprentice) in the past.

The book as an academic tool will equally help students and none – Igbos seeking to know about the IGBA BOI business system of the Igbos.
