DOE Indelible Efforts in Building Entrepreneurs through STEP-S Training
Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE) at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Nigeria continues to equip students of the University with the right business skills and training that support building businesses that are sustainable driven.
Through the STEP -S training, student teachers are trained in developing a business idea that solves at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Students are trained to identify the problems in their community, neighbourhood and areas where they live to enable coming up with ideas that are not only for impact but profit-oriented too. During the training, students begins to identify problems that people around them are facing and sharpening a business idea that can solve the problem or meet needs which aligns with at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Mr Christopher Uwakwe, supporting teams in DOE and the STEP-S trainers equip the student teachers to have the necessary business skills that will enable them to go out there and to teach others how to build a business that embodies sustainability.
The students have the rare opportunity to secure practical business engagement through their chosen business ideas that address SDGs as a way of meeting the needs of the people as opposed to business ideas that don’t solve problems but rather contribute to the problem that the planet faces.
In the training, feedback is important as students interact in ways that build their confidence in entrepreneurship. The participants (students) discuses their business ideas, talk about the SDGs that align with their business idea which they learnt how to develop/craft it through the STEP-S training exposures.
The Student Training for Entrepreneurial Promotion – Sustainability (STEP-S) is still in progress, the trainers continue to make giant efforts to equip the student teachers who would possibly be part of the training on building a sustainable business.
