Directorate of Entrepreneurship (DOE) Godfrey Okoye University Enugu on 23rd September 2024 organized a workshop that marked the official flag off of the Student Training for Entrepreneurial  Promotion – Sustainability (STEP – S)

The Director of DOE, Mr Christopher Uwakwe, provided a detailed overview of the STEP-S project during the workshop to enable the relevant stakeholders to learn more about the project goals and objectives. The workshop was slated to take place from 23rd September 2024 to 27th September 2024.

Speaking during the workshop, the Pro-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Prof. Christian Okeke, welcomed all partners, including participants present physically and online in the workshop.  He also commended the National Universities Commission (NUC) for its continuous support of GOUNI. Before he ended his speech, he assured the Vice Chancellor that the Governing Council of the University is committed to giving him the necessary support for his initiatives and vision in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke in his speech underscore the university’s commitment to promoting entrepreneurship. He discussed ongoing collaborations with both national and international institutions especially in the STEP-S project that embodies the three core Ps of sustainability. The project is people-oriented, environmentally friendly to sustain the planet and profit enabled too. He made emphasis on the university’s strive to address unemployment in Nigeria through series of programs and projects that aimed at turning job seekers into job creators.


Prof. Michael Gielink from Leuphana University, Germany who joined the workshop through Zoom talked about the importance of collaboration among partner universities and commended Godfrey Okoye University Enugu for the committed efforts of the University in promoting entrepreneurship. Other partner institutions in the STEP-S Project represented by  Dr Anyway Mikoni from the University of Venda, South Africa and Mr. Bonface Joel Malala from Mount Kenya University appreciated GOUNI for the warm reception or hospitality. They urged participants in the STEP-S  training to embrace the golden opportunity that the project has positioned to attract for entrepreneurship and economic growth in Africa.

Enugu State Commissioner for Transport Dr Obi Ozor was represented by Mrs Ifeoma who spoke on behalf of the honourable commissioner and applauded the STEP-S project which according to her aligns with the Enugu State Government youth empowerment policies to eradicate poverty.

The workshop that marked the flag off of the STEP-S project attracted applause and commendations from the National Universities Commission (NUC).  The Executive Secretary of NUC  Mr. Chris Maiyaki,  praised Godfrey Okoye University Enugu for the university’s exceptional contributions to entrepreneurial education in Nigeria.

Other notable persons present during the STEP-S workshop on 23rd September 2024 held at Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, Thinker’s Corner, Enugu include the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Gozie Ogbodo.
